Laura Tepper: Road Ecology: Wildlife Habitat and Highway Design

Each Dutch National Highway has a comprehensive landscape plan that addresses its place within the road, water and landscape systems and includes measures for dealing with air and noise pollution, water quality and habitat. At the Rijkswaterstaat, engineers, landscape architects, policymakers and ecologists share office space. Their collaboration generates elegant combinations of systems, heavily engineered but with nature’s best interests in mind. Click image to enlarge. [Image from A4 Deltaroute Plan, Rijkswaterstaat]
