Partner News: University of Minnesota

Public Interest Design Week

The University of Minnesota’s College of Design will be hosting its first Public Interest Design Week March 19 – 24 on their Minneapolis campus.

The College of Design will be hosting this event in conjunction with Design Corps and PublicInterestDesign.org. Predicted to be one of the largest gatherings of public interest design advocates, the week will unite an array of people and groups working at the intersection of design and service.

Focus will be on the current state of the public interest design field, visions for its future and providing training sessions. Keynote addresses will be delivered by New York Times architecture critic Michael Kimmelman; Krista Donaldson, the CEO of D-Rev: Design Revolution; and Liz Ogbu of California College of the Arts’ Center for Art and Public Life, among others.

Additional events will include the Structures for Inclusion 13th annual conference; Shelter: connect, a workshop led by filmmakers Richard Neill and Lee Schneider; Iconothon, a design “hackathon,” led by Sofya Polyakov and Edward Boatman of The Noun Project; an affordable housing design forum, led by Katie Swenson of Enterprise Community Partners; and the Social/Economic/Environmental Design (SEED) Network Awards presentations.

Registration for the Public Interest Design Week is available here.

The University of Minnesota’s College of Design is one of Places’ partner schools.
