Remembrance: Places Editors

Richard Shepard, 1945 – 2013

We are saddened to report that Richard Shepard, a longstanding friend and supporter of Places, died on April 18 after a brief illness. Over the years Richard held several important roles on Places, serving as publisher of the print journal and as treasurer of the board of directors during our first years as an online journal. Along with Samina Quraeshi, his partner in life and work, Richard was a principal of S/Q Design, in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Donlyn Lyndon, editor emeritus, has offered these words of appreciation and remembrance:

"Richard's life and his work were characterized by encompassing generosity, easy empathy and meticulous care for the interests of those with whom he worked. His judicious counsel and great dedication carried Places Journal through some of its most important transitions. We shall be forever grateful for his friendship."
