Adaptive Metropolis Symposium

The Adaptive Metropolis Symposium
will focus on the future of collaborative city making. It will be held at the University of California, Berkeley from September 27-29, where a community of citizens, artists and activists from San Francisco to the Global South will discuss the power of emergent collaborative networks in shaping the urban realm.

The Symposium is part of a series of events that celebrate the Centennial of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning (LAEP) at UC Berkeley, and is organized by the LAEP and Rebar Art & Design Studio — an art and design studio operating at the intersection of art, design and ecology. The first two days of the Symposium will offer a mix of structured debate and informal discussion on topics like the new tools for city-making that are enabled by emergent collaborative networks, and whether these tools are able to make our cities more resilient, livable, and just.

The symposium concludes on Sunday, with the Rebar group leading participants through San Francisco’s streets on an urban exploration. There will be keynote addresses by Steven Johnson, Alfredo Brillembourg, Gil Penalosa and Lisa Gansky.

For more information - including the full list of speakers, a detailed schedule of events, and how to register - please visit the Adaptive Metropolis website at laep.ced.berkeley.edu/adaptivemetropolis/site
