We are pleased to announce awards for Places contributors from the American Society of Landscape Architects and the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

David Heymann received the 2012 Bradford Williams Medal from ASLA’s Landscape Architecture Magazine, for his article “Landscape Is Our Sex,” the first in a series of three essays that appeared on Places last fall. The medal is given annually in honor of Bradford Williams, a past editor, publisher, business manager, and the driving force behind Landscape Architecture Quarterly (now LAM). Heymann received the award for journalistic excellence in writing about landscape architecture for an outside publication. Christopher Hawthorne received the other 2012 Bradford Williams Medal, for journalistic excellence in LAM. See a list of past recipients.

Earlier this year, contributors Kate Bernheimer and Andrew Bernheimer — with collaborators Bernheimer Architecture, Leven Betts Studio and Guy Nordenson and Associates — received an AIANY merit award for their series “The House on Chicken Feet: Fairy Tale Architecture,” which appeared on Places in three installments last December. See the complete list of 2012 AIANY Design Award winners.

Heymann is a professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Texas, Austin, one of Places’ partner schools. Kate Bernheimer is a fairy-tale author and editor. Andrew Bernheimer is the principal of Bernheimer Architecture and teaches at Parsons the New School for Design.
